What is NF in USP?
The USP–NF is a combination of two compendia, the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and the National Formulary (NF). It contains standards for medicines, dosage forms, drug substances, excipients, biologics, compounded preparations, medical devices, dietary supplements, and other therapeutics.
What is the current USP NF version?
The current version of USP–NF standards deemed official by USP are enforceable by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for medicines manufactured and marketed in the United States. The current version, USP–NF 2022, Issue 1, will become official on May 1, 2022.

The United States Pharmacopeia–National Formulary (USP–NF) is continuously revised. Revisions are presented three times a year in the USP-NF as Issues 1, 2, and 3, and as monthly Accelerated Revisions on the USP website.

Under the FDCA, USP standards are binding for dietary supplement manufacturers that label their products as compliant with USP specifications. FDA has issued more than 200 regulations for food substances that incorporate USP’s Food Chemicals Codex specifications by reference.
