What is a D1 form?
The DVLA d1 form is an application from a UK citizen or permanent resident (meaning the resident, who annually spends at least 185 day in Great Britain) to pass the drivers test and obtain a drivers license.
Can you download a DVLA D1 form?
You can order the application pack for a car, moped or motorcycle driving licence – the D1 form (in English) or D1W form (in Welsh). You can also order the application pack for a lorry, minibus or bus driving licence – the D2 form.

Where do I get a D1 form from?
You can pick one up in participating Post office branches. We stock them on behalf of the DVLA. You can also request a D1 form online. If you need some help filling the form out, use the guide leaflet (INF1D) that comes with it.
What do I need for a D1 form?
You will need to provide proof of your identity and a photo (details are given in section 5 on the D1). You will need to return your paper licence with your application.
How long does a D1 form take?

Change your driving licence photo You need to fill out a D1 form, include an unsigned passport-like photo which has been taken over the past 30 days, and provide your old licence. Like with normal postal applications, it takes three weeks.
Can I drive while waiting for my full licence?
Yep, you can drive while waiting for your physical licence! If the police did need to check anything, they could use their database to see that you’re fully qualified.
Where do I send D1 form DVLA?
Send your driving licence to us at DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1BN. If your name has changed you will need to fill in forms D1 or D2, see note under section ‘Your driving licence’. You will also need to send proof of your new name.
When I pass my driving test can I drive straight away?
Don’t worry about the wait, though—you can legally drive independently as soon as you’ve passed your driving test.
