Are refinements common with Invisalign?
Refinements are more common than you think. Invisalign treatment typically takes about 12 to 18 months to complete. During this time, you need to wear your aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours a day, regularly clean them, and switch your trays on time. But even with all of this work, you might still need refinements.
How many refinements do you get with Invisalign go?
It happens sometimes when the stars are aligned, the patient is diligent about their aligner wear, and their body is just suited for the tooth movements but it is not the norm. You should always expect at least 2-3 refinements.
Does everyone get refinement trays with Invisalign?
Although refinements are simply a new set of aligners, not everyone who starts the Invisalign journey requires refinements, in some cases, a few minor corrections and adjustments will be necessary. The following can influence your treatment and have an impact on your result which may require refinement trays.
What happens during refinements Invisalign?
What is involved in the refinement process? If we determine that you’ll need a refinement, we’ll take a new 3D scan of your teeth and fresh digital pictures to send to Invisalign. We’ll approve a new ClinCheck for you, and order additional aligner trays so you can start to “fine tune” your results.
What percentage of Invisalign patients need refinements?
Most dentists acknowledge that 80-90% of the Invisalign intended changes will be achieved. To achieve the last 20% refinements will be required in most cases. Refinements will only be required when your teeth aren’t correctly responding to treatment.
What is the average number of Invisalign trays?
Typically, a patient’s Invisalign treatment lasts about a year. As such, most patients go through about 20 to 30 Invisalign trays. On the extreme end, a patient that needs greater dental adjustment may go through about 50 trays over the course of treatment.
Do you get new attachments for Invisalign refinements?
Typically there are still some small corrections to be made after the first treatment. I knew this going in, so it was not a surprise to me. After each treatment, my orthodontist shaves the Invisalign attachments off of my teeth and I go get them re-scanned for new trays.
Do orthodontists file teeth after Invisalign?
After Invisalign treatment, an orthodontist can complete minor reshaping, but if it’s more involved, find an advanced cosmetic dentist. It’s unlikely that your general dentist has enough experience to reshape your teeth precisely. At times, cosmetic dentists use composite bonding to finish the case.
