How do you hardwire a DCC decoder?

- Remove the plug from the decoder chip.
- Locate the wires from the pick ups and remove from motor using a soldering iron.
- Solder the Black & Red wires from chip, one to each pick up wire.
- Solder the Grey & Orange wires to the motor contacts.
- Locate a suitable decoder position.
Can you convert old trains to DCC?
DCC ready trains can be converted by directly plugging a DCC decoder in to an NEM socket, and non DCC trains will need to have the decoder hard wired.
How do you split a chassis in DCC?
The key to converting a split-chassis model to DCC is to isolate the chassis from the motor terminals. Split-chassis models rely on the motor terminals pressing against the chassis directly, to get power from the track, but DCC needs to intercept this connection and place the decoder between the pickups and the motor.
