What is rockschool piano?
The Rockschool Piano syllabus is an essential resource for contemporary pianists: with 9 levels of piano grades, all abilities are covered. What is a debut on the piano?
The Debut Piano exam is for candidates who have been learning a short time and have developed elementary skills, techniques, co-ordination and musical understanding. There is also an opportunity for basic improvisation.
What is in a Grade 1 piano exam?
Practical Piano Grade 1 exams consist of three pieces, scales and arpeggios, sight-reading, and aural tests. Total marks in all individual Practical exams are 150. You need 100 marks to achieve Pass, 120 marks to pass with Merit and 130 marks to pass with Distinction.
How many piano grades are there?
There are a total of 8 grades in the ABRSM piano exams, where grade 1 is the easiest and grade 8 is the hardest. Each grade tests you in the following areas: scales and arpeggios, sight-reading, and aural testing.
How do rockschool exams work?
Each performed piece is marked out of 20. The other 40% consists of Technical Exercises and supporting tests, which include: Sight Reading, Improvisation & Interpretation, Ear Tests, and five General Musicianship Questions. The pass mark for this style of exam is set at 60%.
Is rockschool equivalent to Abrsm?
The difference is in the styles of music required for the two different boards – ABRSM is more classical. The supporting tests are different, also – the Rockschool ones are more relevant for that type of music. It’s a question of what suits you.
How long does it take to get results from rockschool?
3 weeks
We aim to release results a maximum of 3 weeks after the exam has been taken.
