What is UID India?
About UIDAI UIDAI was created to issue Unique Identification numbers (UID), named as “Aadhaar”, to all residents of India. The UID had to be (a) robust enough to eliminate duplicate and fake identities, and (b) verifiable and authenticable in an easy, cost-effective way.
Who started UID?
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is created in 2009 to issue unique identification numbers. Nandan Nilekani appointed the first chairman. In December 2010, the National Identification Authority of India (NIAI) Bill, 2010 is introduced in Parliament.

Is Aadhaar mandatory for UPSC?
Power of choice rest with individual, so Aadhar cannot be made mandatory. Upheld section 7 – Aadhar mandatory to access social services. Dignity of the community is linked with their right to welfare schemes. Not compulsory to link with bank account.
Can NRI get Aadhar card?
YES. An NRI (whether minor or adult) with a valid Indian Passport can apply for Aadhaar from any Aadhaar Kendra. If your passport has the name of your spouse, then it can be used as Proof of Address for them. If spouse is NRI – valid Indian passport of the applicant is mandatory as Proof of Identity (PoI).
What is UID certificate?
Aadhaar authentication requires the identity data of the resident within the XML (PID block) to be encrypted. AES-256 session key is encrypted using UIDAI’s 2048- public key. This page contains all certificates available for the ecosystem.
