Are Illinois birth records public?
Birth records are not public records and only the following are entitled to receive certified copies: Person named on the record if 18 years of age or older. Parent(s) shown on the record. Legal guardian or legal representative of the child.
How do I find birth records in Illinois?
The Vital Records office of the Illinois Department of Public Health has copies of births from 1916 to present day. Anything before 1916 must be obtained from the county clerk’s office in the county where the birth occurred.
