What does Affresh do for washing machines?

I like Affresh tablets, but at $3 + per use I find it a bit on the expensive side for what it does… Bleach or vinegar on hot cycle. Don’t need a lot. I’ve never had to clean out mine, just make sure leave the doors open so everything dries out after every cycle.
