What is Green Alkanet good for?
Another common name for this flower is ‘evergreen alkanet’. It’s a cousin of the forget-me-not, borage and comfrey and is a very good food plant for bumblebees, some solitary bees, hoverflies, orange tip butterflies, and the caterpillars of the scarlet tiger moth.
What is alkanet used for?
It is used to give colour to wines and alcoholic tinctures, to vegetable oils, and to varnishes. Powdered and mixed with oil, the alkanet root is used as a wood stain.

This is a deep-rooted perennial weed and it should be possible to eliminate the problem with repeat applications of a glyphosate-based weedkiller (e.g. Roundup Ultra, SBM Job done General Purpose Weedkiller or Doff Advanced Weedkiller). Glyphosate is a non-selective, systemic weedkiller applied to the foliage.
