Has the ship Erebus been found?
In September 2014, an expedition led by Parks Canada discovered the wreck of HMS Erebus in an area that had been identified by Inuit. Two years later the wreck of HMS Terror was located.
Did Captain Francis survive?
No one survived. Twenty-five years later, an Inuit guide led explorers to a spot on King William Island more than 200 kilometers from where the ships are believed to be encased, where a shallow grave contained the complete skeleton of an officer: one of the Franklin expedition’s casualties.

Not a single man survived the journey although some did reach the mainland, the bodies of thirty men being subsequently found near the Great Fish River.

It is rumoured that Crozier survived and spent his remaining days amongst the nomadic Chipewyan herders of northern Canada, though this has never been confirmed. Certainly his previous forays into the polar regions endowed him with the necessary knowledge and endurance skills to have done so.
