Can I use my phone on the PATH train?
The PATH commuter rail system connecting New York and New Jersey is expected to implement the next generation of contactless fare payment and collection technology, allowing riders to “tap and go” with their mobile devices and credit/debit cards. The new system will be similar to the MTA’s One Metro New York (OMNY).
Does PATH transfer to subway?
Can you transfer from the subway to PATH? Yes, but you’ll pay for two separate rides. You can use a Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard with credit for both the subway and the PATH trains.
Can I take the subway from New Jersey to Manhattan?
The cheapest and most efficient way is to use the PATH subway. The PATH subway will take you from Newark to Manhattan in about 30 minutes. The cost is $2.75. Trains also depart from Newark’s Penn Station and commute to NYC’s Penn Station, however the train is often more expensive and slower.
Is the path part of the New York MTA?

What is the difference between the path and the Metro?
We don’t have a “metro” we have a “subway,” but to confuse things, you use a Metrocard to ride the subway. The subway is the internal train system within 4 of the 5 boroughs of NYC (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx). The PATH is the train that goes between NJ and Manhattan, but has several stops within Manhattan.
Can you use a New York MetroCard on the path?
You can also use the New York MetroCards for the PATH. HOWEVER, monthly tickets or weekly cards for the New York MTA subway are not valid for the PATH. This is where the SmartLink card jumps in. A combination of PATH/MetroCard is only possible if you have credit on your MetroCard.
How much does the path cost in New York City?
As of November 1, 2019 , a single PATH ride is $2.75; two-trip tickets are $5.50; 10-trip, 20-trip, and 40-trip cards charge $2.50 per trip; a single-day unlimited, $10.50; a seven-day unlimited, $36.00; and a 30-day unlimited, $110.25. A senior SmartLink costs $1.25 per trip.
