What sound decoder does Bachmann use?
Starting in 2011, Bachmann Standard line locomotives come with an optional SoundTraxx Digital Sound Decoder that Bachmann refers to as a “Sound Value” option.
What is Bachmann sound value?
The Sound Value locos are part of the Bachmann Standard line. The DCC/Sound Unit is integrated into the electronics board – it is not a “plug in” unit like the Spectrum Tsunami decoder. It features 16 bit sound like the Tsunami (and is manufactured by SoundTraxx) but has a more limited set of features.

Do DCC Ready trains have sound?
If the K-4 has DCC then it must have sound, because the only version with DCC also has sound. The other version is just “DCC-ready”, which is often times confused with “DCC-On Board” or “DCC-Equipped.” DCC-ready just means it is easier to install a decoder in the locomotive, but no decoder is included.
What is DCC sound ready?
DCC Ready means just that: you can plug in a DCC decoder without any fancy electrical work. A DCC decoder is just DCC. For sound, you need a sound decoder. There are some sound only decoders out there, but most sound decoders also have the motor control logic built in.
Is Bachmann DCC compatible with Hornby?
Yes, any OO scale loco, wagon or coach will work on any OO scale track, regardless of brand. Couplings are also compatible so they will connect together.
