Can I get a chair on NHS?
Getting an NHS wheelchair Ask a GP, physiotherapist or hospital staff to refer you to your local wheelchair service for an assessment. You’ll need to do this before you can get an NHS wheelchair. The local wheelchair service will decide if you need a wheelchair and, if so, what type. You might be able to get a voucher.
Can the NHS provide a commode?
If you have difficulty getting to the toilet, they may need a commode, bedpan or urinal. The GP, community nurse, home care team or social worker should be able to arrange this. You can also buy these from chemists or pharmacies. Some commodes are made to look like ordinary bedroom chairs.

An adaptation is a change made to your home to make it more accessible and safer for a disabled person. You may be entitled to a grant to cover the costs of any work you need carried out in your home.
Why do hospital wheelchairs go backwards?

How long does it take to get an NHS wheelchair?
How long does it take to get a wheelchair? We aim to provide you with your equipment within 18 weeks of receiving your referral. There is a longer wait if you need a specialist assessment and/or specialist equipment.
Can I get a raised toilet seat from the NHS?
The Occupational Therapist on the ward will discuss with you what equipment you will require upon discharge from hospital. Ordering and provision of equipment is based on individual need. A raised toilet seat may be provided if you have difficulty sitting down on the toilet or standing up from it.

Can you get a grant on PIP?
If you get PIP you may be entitled to extra money on top of your existing benefits, a reduction in your council tax or road tax bills and discounts on travel. You’ll need your PIP award letter before you can apply for this extra help. This award letter is sometimes called a PIP award notice.
