How do you promote ZOA growth?
Just give them time. I’ve found that zoas take awhile to acclimate. Meaning a couple months or more. Then when they start growing, they don’t stop.
What do you feed zoas coral?
Target feeding zoanthid coral polyps is fairly straightforward:
- If you’re using a small particle food like Reef Roids, you want to mix a small scoop of the dry food with a small bit of tank water, so the food/water mixture is thick and almost pasty.
- Turn off all of your aquarium pumps.
Do zoanthids need magnesium?
Frag Swap Crusader! They do not use calcium carbonate (calcium and alkalinity) to build a skeleton, so no “they” don’t need it.
Do ZOAS grow quickly?
Depends on the zoas I think. Most of mine grow at about a polyp every few weeks. However, I have a colony that is not invasive by nature but is growing about 1 polyp a day!
Do ZOAS like iodine?
He told me to Dose Iodine and that Softies especially Zoanthids love it. I have never Dosed Iodine before because I was told it is easy to overdose and also that it is dosed for SPS.
How do I make my ZOAS brighter?
Try placing some zoas in a little shade for a couple of weeks and see if there is an improvement on the coloration. Your Zoas may bleach if you have too much lighting. FWIW, I used a 150w, 14k Sunpod on one end of a 55g temporarily and the lighting was more than enough for my Zoos.
Can you feed ZOAS reef roids?
Spot feed, but don’t let the food sit in mouth. Unless your tank flow is strong. I’ve noticed this before. I will add reef roids to the very top of the zoas and the foot will just sit there.
Do ZOAS need nitrates?
Most softies actually do better with some nitrates and I often MOST of my zoas will grow faster when nitrates are on the high side. That being said, I have some colonies that behave just like SPS and need pristine water.
Do ZOAS need phytoplankton?
no, you may experience nitrate/phos spikes due to added nutrients in the water. thanks and good advice. I’ve tried marine phytoplankton for a while and had only algae problems with no significant zoa improvements. Planktons are much better.
How long does it take for ZOAS to multiply?
Just a general answer, I would say 3 weeks for zoas.
How many hours of light do zoanthids need?
Zoanthids are photosynthetic coral, however they do not demand nearly as much light as many other corals. For best growth and coloration, blue and actinic color lights are ideal. Aiming for roughly 8 – 10 hours of full light, and 2 – 4 hours of ramping up/down will typically satisfy most corals, including zoanthids.
What is algae and why is it bad for Zoas?
Algae grows rapidly and can cover the polyps of your zoas, restricting their access to nutrients and light. If you do not prevent algae growth before it starts, it can quickly cover your tank and get out of control.
Are Zoas easy to take care of?
They are so widespread that you can find them in shallow waters, deep waters and other marine habitats. Zoas are one of the coolest corals you can keep. They are relatively easy to take care of, they come in so many unusual colors and varieties, and they can grow fast. And the best of all? They are fairly inexpensive. Well, most of them.
What are the best conditions for Zoas in a reef tank?
Glad you asked. Keep the temperature approximately 78 degrees Fahrenheit. The salinity should be between 1.024 and 1.026 specific gravity. Hardiness between 8 to 12 dKH, and the pH between 8 and 8.4. If you can keep the water conditions between those lines, I am confident that you will have healthy zoas in your reef tank.
Is zoanthid coral good for beginners?
As you see, Zoanthid coral requires just a touch of attention. It’s not aggressive and adapts to almost any adequate conditions. Zoanthid will not cause any problems, which makes it a perfect fit for beginners (of course if you provide adequate water quality, minerals)
