What does carbidopa do for you?
Carbidopa is in a class of medications called decarboxylase inhibitors. It works by preventing levodopa from being broken down before it reaches the brain. This allows for a lower dose of levodopa, which causes less nausea and vomiting.
What time of day should carbidopa be taken?
Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually 2 to 3 times a day. Doses are usually taken 4 to 8 hours apart while awake. Do not crush or chew this medication. Doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects.

For patients starting on carbidopa and levodopa treatment: At first, one tablet three or four times a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed. However, the dose is usually not more than 200 mg per day.

Recommended doses of carbidopa are 75–200 mg/day. Higher doses could inhibit brain aromatic amino acid decarboxylase and reduce clinical effects.
Should you take carbidopa-levodopa before bed?
Taking a nighttime dose of controlled- or extended-release carbidopa-levodopa (Sinemet CR or Rytary, respectively) may improve sleep. Several studies of dopamine agonists reported improvements in sleep quality.
