What is EPREX injection used for?
EPREX is used to treat anaemia in adults receiving chemotherapy for solid tumours, malignant lymphoma or multiple myeloma (bone marrow cancer) who may have a need for a blood transfusion. EPREX can reduce the need for a blood transfusion in these patients.

How quickly does EPREX work?
It takes at least 2 weeks (and as long as 6 weeks) for a noticeable response to the medication. This medication may be available under multiple brand names and/or in several different forms.

The subcutaneous route of administration should be used. The recommended dose regimen is 600 IU/kg Eprex given weekly for three weeks (days -21, -14, and -7) prior to surgery and on the day of surgery.

How do you take EPREX?
EPREX injection is administered either into a vein (intravenously) or just under the skin (subcutaneously). After instruction, you can administer it under the skin yourself if you wish. Your doctor can discuss with you whether injection into the vein or under the skin is preferable.

EPO medication is very safe. In rare cases, patients feel like they have the flu about 1 hour after an injection. This is not serious and the feeling does go away. EPO medication improves hemoglobin so your blood pressure may go up.
