Are LS rocker arm bolts reusable?
The intake manifold, rocker arm, and rear cover bolts can be reused. The vertical main bolts can also be re-used, but the side bolts are often replaced because they have sealant on them. These can be re-used if sealant is re-applied.
Are LS1 and LS3 rocker arms the same?
You need standard LS1 rocker arms for your LQ4. The LS3 and L92 truck engines uses the same offset intake rocker arm and standard straight exhaust rocker arm. The LS7 use a similar setup but the intake rocker more offset, where as the LS1/LS2 are both straight.
Should I Loctite rocker arm bolts?
Red loctite is only for those items that you dont ever plan to remove. Rocker arms and any other engine parts dont fit that bill. cam gear bolts would be the exception. You just need something to seal the intake threads, as they lead to the port, and can cause a vacuum leak.
Can you reuse stock LS rod bolts?
You can reuse the bolts. The stock rods are weak and usually break just above the large radius (no aftermarket (ARP) bolt will stop it)… If the rods are out, you should replace them with Compstar or equivalent/better; if you can afford it.
Do you put sealant on LS head bolts?
It does not need to be sealant to use an LS1 head bolt. You can only tap blind one or two of all the LS1 head bolts. If you want to bolt the heads onto the blocks, you should blow any water or oil in the bolt holes first before bolting the heads on.
Are LS main bolts torque-to-yield?
LS main cap and connecting rod bolts are not torque-to-yield (TTY) but do use the torque angle (TA) specification. The spec is similar to TTY but the bolts are reusable. A wise alternative for high output engines is a set of ARP rod bolts and main studs that use traditional torque specs.
Can main bearings be reused?
Re: Reusing rod/main bearings I’ve reused my bearings many a time and never had an issue as long as they look good. If the crush is a bit off, just spread them out.
Do I need Loctite on head bolts?
NO! You can use blue locktite in alot of places, but your headbolts are not one of them. Headbolts need to be brought up to torque specs in stages, and in a specific order (see a motor manual), and then re-torqued after the engine has been run for awhile to make sure they are all at the proper torque value.
Can you reuse cylinder head bolts?
Head bolts removed from an engine running with a blown head gasket can be rusty. If a head bolt is rusted it should not be reused. A head bolt should not be reused if the threads are galled or badly damaged.
Should you replace all rocker arms?
Often the rocker arms all fail around the same time, so replacing them all at once would be a good idea.
