What happens at a Twoc?
A trial without catheter (TWOC) is when a catheter (the tube inserted into your bladder to drain urine) is removed from the bladder for a trial period to determine whether you are able to pass urine spontaneously. You will also have an ultrasound scan of your bladder as part of the trial.
What is a successful Twoc?
Successful TWOC was defined as voiding with PVR urine volume of less than 100 mL. All other outcomes were regarded as failures.
What is trial removal of catheter?
How is an RTROC done? Using the catheter already in your bladder, a sterile fluid (saline) will be used to fill your bladder. The catheter is then removed from your bladder and you will be asked to urinate (void) immediately. The amount of urine you pass will be measured.

When would a bladder washout be required?
A bladder washout might be needed if: there is a lot of sediment in the urine. the catheter is not draining correctly. the catheter has blocked and is not being replaced.
How long after a catheter is removed should a patient void?

What happens after a failed Twoc?
If patient fails TWOC with residual of less than 500mls, re-catheterise and try again the next day. If patient fails 2 TWOCs or residual is over 500mls, send patient home on free drainage for 7 – 14 days to rest bladder.
